welcome to Nduti Tea Factory

This is Our Story

Established in 2002, Nduti Tea Factory is a farmer-owned company nestled at the foot of the Aberdare ranges in Gituru, Murang’a County, Kenya. We are proud members of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and serve thousands of smallholder farmers who are the lifeblood of our operations.

Located 2,037 meters above sea level, our factory benefits from rich, well-drained volcanic soils and a reliable rainfall pattern — the perfect terroir for producing world-class tea. We specialize in premium black CTC teas, processed with precision and care using both traditional methods and modern technology to bring out bold flavors, rich aroma, and brilliant color in every cup.

Why are we special?

At Nduti, tea is more than a product — it’s a story of community, sustainability, and craftsmanship. From leaf to cup, our journey reflects a commitment to quality, fair trade, and the empowerment of the farmers we represent.

The Journey of Our Tea Process

From Leaf to Cup

Individual farmers pluck green leaf and deliver it to designated buying centers. At each center, a factory-appointed clerk inspects the quality of the leaf. Only the high-quality leaf is accepted, loaded into ventilated leaf carriers, and transported to the factory for processing.

Tea destined for the Mombasa Auction is transported by rented trucks. Upon arrival, it is received by KTDA personnel and stored in KTDA-managed warehouses.

KTDA’s Marketing Department assigns the tea to an appointed broker, who sends samples and catalogues to potential buyers. At the auction, tea is sold to the highest bidder.

For direct overseas sales, tea is shipped directly to international buyers without going through the auction.

Packed retail products are distributed through Nduti’s Factory Door but are also delivered to interested retailers locally and internationally. Apart from Nduti’s branded teas, we also pack for other interested brands and retailers who would like to pack their teas at source.

Step 1: Withering

The journey of Black CTC Tea begins with the skillful hands of tea pickers delicately selecting the freshest two leaves and a bud from the tea bushes. These young, tender shoots are the essence of your perfect cup of tea.Once the tea leaves are handpicked to perfection, they are carefully weighed and offloaded for the next phase of their transformation.

Step 2: Cut, Tear, Cut (CTC)

The leaves are laid out on troughs to remove moisture. This prepares them for rolling and helps develop the tea’s characteristic aroma.

Step 3: Fermentation

In the quiet hours of withering and fermentation, tea leaves gracefully surrender their moisture, becoming pliable and ready for the next steps. This natural dance with time and air sets the stage for a rich and full-bodied tea.

Step 4: Drying

Gentle hot air caresses the fermented tea leaves as they are carefully dried to preserve their newfound character. This step locks in the essence of the tea, ensuring it’s ready to unfurl its full flavor when steeped in your cup.

Step 5: Sorting

Expert hands meticulously sort through the tea, removing any remnants of stems and undesirable elements. What remains is pure, refined Black CTC Tea, ready to infuse your teapot with a symphony of bold flavors and comforting aromas.
